It may have been Friday the 13th but for these Soldier Medics it was graduation day and a day to celebrate. The Enhanced Combat Medic Course prepares Soldier Medics to perform at a higher degree of proficiency than their predecessors. Most, if not all, will graduate with having successfully tested for the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (Advanced).
However, today, a graduate continues the family legacy of service. Peyton Spurrier, great granddaughter of Major Charles Kelly, was among those graduates. All three of the family siblings are or will be service members in the Armed Forces. Her sister is serving in the Marines. Her boyfriend will graduate soon and be commissioned in the Army and desires to fly helicopters. Peyton becomes a combat medic headed to jump school and then to Italy.
COL Retired Dan Gower and MG Pat Brady were in the audience. Friends of the family for many years, they were honored to witness graduation and spend a bit of time with the family and Spurrier. A tour of the AMEDD Museum for Carol Kelly Dorn and Husband Mike along with Peyton’s parents was provided by George Wunderlich the museum curator.
Welcome to the best job in the Army Peyton! We wish you all the best in your next assignments and for your quest to become a DUSTOFF Critical Care Flight Paramedic.
