James R. Bierlein

Bierlein, James R. Caledonia, Michigan James R. “Jim” Bierlein, age 80, went home to be with his Father in Heaven on Friday, March 10, 2023. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army, and went on to work as a helicopter pilot and business owner for many years.

He served in the 498th Med Co in 1966.

His wife of 33 years, Valerie, preceded him in death in 2014. Jim is survived by his children, Amberly Schmitt, Alexandria Bierlein, Aaron Bierlein, and Joe Berlin; his grandchildren, Nathan, Aiden, Kael, Lydia, and Liam; and his sister. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 20, from 5 – 7 PM at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI, where the Rosary will be recited at 7 PM. Immediately following the Rosary, there will be time of sharing and eulogies. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday, March 21, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft Ave. SE, Caledonia.The interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association (www.vhpa.org).
