Stephen Peth

LTC Stephen Boyer Peth enlisted as a Private and rose to Lieutenant Colonel. Serving as a Warrant Officer with the 159th Medical Detachment in Vietnam, he evacuated 3006 patients. In one four-day period, he logged 51 missions and evacuated 251 seriously wounded patients. Of his 3579 flying hours, 1639 were combat hours. His extraordinary heroism resulted in the award of a Silver Star, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, Purple Heart, and Air Medal with ā€œVā€ Device and 40 OLCs. Seriously wounded during a DUSTOFF mission, he underwent three major surgeries before returning to flying and 26 years of distinguished military service. He achieved Master Aviator status and served at Army and DOD level as a Certified Acquisition Manager. He continues to represent the best traditions of DUSTOFF with 16 years of service as a volunteer Red Cross Group Leader at the Walter Reed National Medical Center. LTC Peth was inducted into the DUSTOFF Hall of Fame on 21 May 2022.
