James David Toner, (aka JT to adult friends, and Jimmy to family and childhood friends), age 57, died on October 16, 2022, after suffering a catastrophic cerebral hemorrhage in his home on October 11, 2022.

JT was preceded in death by his father, James Patrick Toner and beloved Godmother, Elizabeth Nicholas. He is survived by his four children: Emily, Grace, Olivia and Sean Toner, his mother, Marian Toner, sister, Jennifer Martorelli, brother in-law, Lou Martorelli, nephews, Vincent and Andrew Martorelli, and his loving partner, Susanne Henslee. He also has four adoring aunts: Sally, Laura, Frances and Donna D’Alesio, and countless cousins and friends that are mourning his passing.

JT attended St. Paul’s School, in Congers, NY and graduated from Nyack HS in Nyack, NY and Salisbury College in Salisbury, MD. He played football through college, starting with the Valley Cottage Indians. He had life-long relationships from each. He was a veteran of Desert Storm, retiring after serving honorably for 20 years as a Medical Evacuation Aviator with the rank of Major in the U.S. Army. The Army, along with his devotion to his cherished family and Catholic faith, developed him into the man he became, and were the foundations for his exemplary morality, loyalty and dedication to family, friends, faith and country.

He was the life of the party, a man of great humor, and an amazing chef. He loved to cook for the entire neighborhood to feast and enjoyed hosting gatherings for every occasion. In addition, he’s remembered for his kindness, caring and loving nature. JT was an organ donor and has bestowed the gift of life to numerous others. In his passing, we take comfort in the fact that he provided miracles to many. Our hero was their hero in his departing.

The family would like to thank the ER and ICU at Methodist Main Hospital, University Hospital and all members of TOSA (Texas Organ Sharing Alliance) for their compassionate care during JT’s short stay. Both the hospitals and TOSA Staff honored JT as veteran and organ donor and included all loved ones and staff in a “hero’s walk” as he left the hospital and went into surgery for the last time.

Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home in Boerne, TX will host a visitation on Thursday, 11/10/22 from 5-7pm, with the praying of the Rosary at 6:30pm. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, 11/11/22 at 12pm, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne, TX. Military burial with honors will be on Monday, 11/14/22 at 11am, Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any state organ donor association and/or any Veteran association; causes he felt strongly about. Donations may also be made to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne TX to plant much-needed trees around the church in JT’s memory.
