COL Johnny L. West

COL Johnny L West passed away on May 1, 2026, at the age of 73. Born in August 1952 to Lee and Mary West, he grew up in McGehee Arkansas with siblings Mamie, Warren and Sissy.

Johnny graduated from Henderson State University in 1975 and entered the Army in January 1976 as a Medical Service Corps Officer. He attended flight school at Fort Rucker Alabama and became a Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) Pilot and began his lifelong association with the DUSTOFF community. During his 30 years of military service, he was assigned to multiple duty locations within the United States and Germany.

He survived by his wife Susan, sons John, Mike, Alan (Emily) and Jason (Emily), grandchildren Madison, Hannah, Samuel, Abigail, Alyssa and Aiden, as well as sisters Mamie Seamans, Sissy Jackson (Mike), and brother Warren (Marcie). He was preceded in death by his parents.

In retirement Johnny combined his love of golf (and golf buddies) and travel with annual trips to Myrtle Beach, multiple trips to Scotland, heading west to Oregon (Brandon Dunes) and everywhere in-between. If Susan planned a trip, he said, “tell me where and when” and off they went. He loved road trips to visit family and see the US.

He served the DUSTOFF Association with countless hours, in multiple roles, and was always willing to help. On May 1, 2025, Johnny was inducted into the DUSTOFF Hall of Fame.

A Celebration of Life of was held on Wednesday, June 17 at 6:30 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home.

Military Services were held on Thursday, June 18 at 9:30 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
