Roger M. Weed

Roger Martin Weed was born February 26, 1943 in the Village of Warsaw, New York to Florence and Walter Weed.

Roger was raised in Arlington, Texas. He was active in Boy Scouts, an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1961.

Roger graduated from UT Arlington in 1964. He married his wife, Mary Carolynn Murchison, on June 19, 1965.

In 1965, Roger joined the Army and became a Helicopter Pilot. In 1967, he served in Vietnam as a Medevac pilot. He sustained wounds during an evacuation and was not expected to fly again. Because of his persistence in physical therapy, he was flying again in 5 months. He then served in Korea.

In 1969, Roger left active duty and entered U.T. Dental Branch in Houston. He graduated in 1973 and remained in the Army Reserves until he retired as a Colonel in 2003.

From 1973 to 1975, Roger had a private practice in Arlington and was on the faculty at Baylor College of Dentistry. In 1977, Roger began his career at UT Health Dental School. After 41 years of teaching, research and service, Roger retired from UT Health in 2018. Roger and Mary have two daughters, Stacy Free (Richard) and Kayla (deceased), and two grandsons, Austin and Travis Henk.
