In Vietnam, LTG Quinn H. Becker commanded the 15th Medical Battalion, parent unit of the famed 1st Cavalry Division’s Air Ambulance Platoon. This introduction to helicopter medical evacuation led to his career-long support of the DUSTOFF mission. An orthopedic surgeon by training and a senior flight surgeon, he was a self-described field doctor. His credibility with the Army line resulted in approval of important medical readiness initiatives improving DUSTOFF capabilities. As the Deputy Army Surgeon General, he persuaded the Army DCSOPS to accelerate the UH-60 fielding plan for air ambulance units, specifically the 57th Med Det (HA) and the 421st Med Co (AA). His significant assignments included Command of Womack Army Hospital; Commandant of the US Army Academy of Health Sciences; and Command of 7th Medical Command and Surgeon, US Army Europe. His stellar 32 year military career culminated as the 36th Surgeon General of the United State Army. LTG Becker was inducted into the DUSTOFF Hall of Fame on 21 May 2022
