Dear DUSTOFF Family,
What an incredible year it has been! Since our last update, we’ve made historic strides together and have so much to celebrate. Here’s the latest news to bring you up to speed on our progress and exciting upcoming events.
On September 26, 2024, history was made as the DUSTOFF Crews of Vietnam Congressional Gold Medal Act was signed into law. This monumental achievement honors the extraordinary bravery and sacrifice of our Vietnam DUSTOFF crews, who embodied the motto “So That Others May Live.” We extend our deepest gratitude to all who supported this legislation, especially Senator John Cornyn for his unwavering dedication to this cause.
We had the privilege of celebrating this momentous occasion at the AMEDD Museum in San Antonio, where Senator Cornyn personally honored these heroes and commemorated the CGM passage. The event was a heartfelt tribute to the courage and legacy of our Vietnam DUSTOFF veterans. Thank you to all who attended and made it a day to remember.
On the evening of November 1st, my son Caleb and I had the privilege of attending a special dinner at the Hunton, Andrews, Kurth, LLP Headquarters in Washington, D.C., alongside Merle Snyder, Steve Peth, and members of the Vietnam DUSTOFF Association. This meaningful event was paid for by the Vietnam DUSTOFF Association and honored the exceptional efforts of the firm in organizing our teams and engaging elected officials to raise awareness of the heroic contributions of Vietnam DUSTOFFers. I was honored to represent our association with Merle and Steve and future member, Caleb. The Hunton Group’s unwavering dedication was instrumental in the successful passage of the Congressional Gold Medal legislation, ensuring these courageous crews receive the recognition they so deeply deserve.
A heartfelt acknowledgment goes to Johnny West, whose assistance made it possible to deliver a special gift to Hunton Andrews Kurth, LLP, which Caleb and I had the honor of presenting that evening. The gift included a beautifully framed DUSTOFF painting commissioned by Stan Marchieski, along with a framed American Flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol on September 26, 2024—the day the DUSTOFF Crews of Vietnam Congressional Gold Medal Act was signed into law. Accompanying the flag was a certificate of authenticity, personally signed by U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX). This unforgettable evening was a heartfelt celebration of collaboration, dedication, and gratitude.
