Curtis Autry Laird, Sr., a cherished resident of Dayton, TX, passed away peacefully at home on December 4, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 20, 1939, in Dayton, he led a life rich in service, dedication, and accomplishment.

 Curtis’ education began in Dayton, where he graduated from Dayton High School in the class of 1958. He furthered his studies at the University of the State of New York, graduating in 1977. His commitment to learning and personal growth was evident throughout his life.

 He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, where he retired as a Captain. Notably, Curtis was a helicopter pilot and a Vietnam veteran, completing two tours of duty. His final assignment was with 36th Med Detachment, Fort Polk, LA. His military service was marked by numerous ribbons and awards, a testament to his bravery and skill.

 After his military career, Curtis transitioned into civilian life, becoming a maintenance planner at Mobil Oil, where he dedicated many years of service. His professional journey also included a five-year position with the Liberty County Appraisal District, where he was proud to serve as the Chairman of the ARB Review Board for three years. Additionally, he contributed to the community as a member of the City of Dayton Planning Commission for a decade, demonstrating his commitment to civic engagement.

 Throughout his life, Curtis was also actively involved in the American Legion Post 512, where he served as Post Commander for 13 years, highlighting his leadership and dedication to veterans and their families.

 Curtis is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Erika A. Laird and their son Curtis Laird and wife Tina. He leaves behind numerous relatives and friends who will cherish his memory and the profound impact he had on their lives.

 He is preceded in death by his parents, Morgan J. Laird, Sr. and Mary Dee Riley Laird, and siblings Jackie Haley, Morgan “Bubba” Laird and Sidney Laird.

 Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, located at 1304 N Cleveland St, Dayton, TX 77535. A graveside service will take place the following day, Monday, December 9, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Palms Memorial Park, situated at 2421 N Hwy 146, Dayton, TX 77535.

 Pallbearers will be Morgan Laird, Joshua Sundgren, Bubba Richter, Allan Waldrop, Rodney Bode and Stanley Davis.

 Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Holbrook, Robbie Thornton, John Zarsky, Ron Carter, Dr. Robert Seaberg, Alan Conner, David Taylor, Luke Chachere, Rob Chachere, Charlie Martin, Jim Sterling, Dayton High School class of 1958, Liberty County Appraisal District, American Legion Memorial Post 512, Chachere Veterinary Clinic, Chachere Feed Store and Harbor Hospice.

 Curtis Autry Laird, Sr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him, remembered not only for his achievements and service but also for the love and kindness he shared with those around him.
