is seeking nominations for their third annual HELICOPTER HEROISM AWARD. Continuing the tradition established in 1966 by Textron Lycoming, the award will be presented to a pilot or crew for an outstanding act of heroism using a helicopter in 1997.
LAST YEAR'S WINNER
CREW OF CHINOOK 233 PENNSYLVANIA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD
Receiving the award is a crew from a lowly Chinook unit - not even an air ambulance organization!!!
The competition is international in scope and open to anyone, civilian or military. There are no restrictions as to age, sex, nationality, or occupation of the nominees, or to the type of helicopter involved. Posthumous candidates are also eligible.
Any individual, group or organization may submit nominations, which must be accompanied by authenticating material about the act of heroism involved, such as letter, films, press accounts, citations, and other records or documents.
February 28, 1998 is the deadline for nominations.
The winner will be selected by a panel of prestigious individuals in the helicopter industry.
Announcement of the winner and a feature story about the rescue effort will appear in the June 1998 issue of Rotor & Wing. The winner will receive an expense paid trip to Washington, DC, to receive the Helicopter Heroism Award.
OK FELLOW DUSTOFFers, SUBMIT AN ENTRY AND LET'S NOT LET ANOTHER CHINOOK UNIT WIN THIS AWARD!!!
