Message:I served in the 343rd Med Det (RA) from 1980-6. It was the best time of my military career. I am in an AHB now and it is nowhere as fulfilling as my Dustoff time. In my opinion dustoff crews are the best trained and motivated crews in the Army. I had the privilege of being in a unit that was, at one time, the best Dustoff unit in CONUS.

Message:I FLEW WITH THE 237th "DMZ" DUSTOFF, 1970- 1971, AS MEDIC ABOARD DUSTOFF 216. WILDEST AND BRAVEST BUNCH OF CRAZIES ANYONE EVER FLEW WITH. NEVER REFUSED A MISSION NO MATTER HOW DANGEROUS OR HOT. USED THE 'jungle penetrator' MOSTLY DURING "HOT HOISTS", OR PICKING UP "LRRPS". WORKED THE 'Z', KHE SAN, VANDERGRIFT VALLEY AND LAOS (LOM SAN 719 OPERATION). LOVE THE JOB, AND THE BRAVE MEN WHO PERFORMED THE HEROIC ACTS TO SAVE LIVES. THE MARINES AND AIRFORCE CALLED US THE BEST, " THE BOYS WITH BRASS BALLS ". THE 5TH MECH AND 101ST WERE OUR REGULAR PICK UPS. THEY TOO THOUGHT WE WERE NUTS BUT LOVED US BECAUSE WE CARED AND NEVER LET THEM DOWN. GOD BLESS ALL THOSE WHO DIDN'T MAKE IT AND THOSE WHO DID! FLEW WITH MR. WOODS, LT SHAFER, MR. BROWN, JERRY GRAFF (BEST CREWCHIEF EVER) CRASH CARTER, PAUL SIMCOE, DENNIS FUGI, RUSSEL AHREN, AND SO MANY OTHERS. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES. . . GOOD OR BAD!
